Clear Lake, also known as the Bay Area, is a master-planned community and a waterfront residential district at the same time. Located in the southeast part of Harris County Texas, it is referred to as the 2nd largest MPC in Greater Houston. The majority of Clear Lake City Texas is mostly of corporate area limits. Pasadena borders it on the north and Taylor Lake Village on the eastern part.
Initial minor development of Clear Lake City Texas was accomplished by James Marion West, who became a wealthy businessman in the latter part of the 1800s in the fields of lumber, ranching, and oil. Humble Oil, which is now called ExxonMobil, made a purchase of West’s underdeveloped property in 1938 from West in 1938 after oil was discovered. Only until the Johnson Space Center was established in the area, Humble Oil’s venture, the Friendswood Development Company, made substantial plans to create a residential community. In 1963, it then founded the Clear Lake City Texas Community Association, Inc.
Clear Lake City Texas is divided into various neighborhoods. These are Bay Glen, Bay Oaks, Bay Pointe, Bay Forest, Bay Knoll, Brook Forest, Brookwood, Camino South, Clear Lake Forest, Meadowgreen, Northfork, Middlebrook, Oakbrook, Pipers Meadow, Oakbrook West, and Pinebrook.

In 1986-1987, Clear Lake Intermediate was named a National Blue Ribbon School.
