Manvel Texas is a modest city in northern Brazoria County, with a population of 8,000 people. The city is located in southeast Texas, just under a 30-minute drive south of Houston, the state’s largest metropolis. Manvel Texas is near State Highway 288, which links to the Sam Houston Tollway, to the east. Iowa Colony to the west, Pearland to the north, and Alvin to the east are all nearby cities. Highway 6 passes through the city, making it convenient for locals to go to Galveston to the southeast and Sugar Land to the northwest.
Manvel Texas developed as a small group of enterprises that were formed along with the local railroad crossings when it was founded in 1890. By 1895, the town had developed to 350 residents and a few additional enterprises, including a grocer, a real estate agent, and a general store. The town endured harsh snows and natural calamities in its early years, which damaged local harvests, but it prevailed.
This city had a small but stable population by 1906, and the town had various businesses as well as a small school with 29 students. The population of Manvel Texas remained relatively constant until approximately 1930 when the Texas Oil Company found oil on a nearby property. The town became a prosperous community as a result of the finding, and the city’s population began to grow. The population of Manvel Texas increased from 110 in 1975 to 4,500 in 1988.
