Porter is a community in Montgomery County in southeastern Texas, which is not yet legally part of the county. Its population count in 2010 was 25,769. Porter Texas is located in the northern area of Kingwood in Houston.

The first few settlers in the area included James Porter. He operated a sawmill way back then. When the town post office was opened to the public in 1892, the name “Porters” was used as an alternative, “Porter’s Mill.” Then in 1953, it was permanently called Porter, dropping the “s.”

Transportation in Porter Texas includes Interstate 69, along with U.S. Highway 59. These all connect Porter to the metropolitan, Houston. The State Highway 99 (Grand Parkway) also travels through Porter Texas. The Farm to Market Road 1314 starts in Porter and ends in Conroe.

When in Porter Texas, you can stay in hotels like Porter Executive Inn & Suites, Americas Best Value Inn & Suites Porter North Houston, or in a smaller motel such as Crystal Inn.

Main attractions include Hurricane Harbor Splashtown, which is a waterpark with a lazy river, slides, etc. for different age groups. The Urban Air Trampoline and Adventure Park is a children’s amusement center having a large indoor trampoline great for open jumping, parties, and fitness classes. Another aquatic center is Big Rivers Waterpark & Adventures, which has colorful slides and splash pads. Jesse H. Jones Park & Nature Center features a large tract for play and a network of trails. Visit Old MacDonald’s Farm Porter Texas especially if you have youngsters. They will enjoy a petting zoo, pumpkin catch, mini train, and pool. For nature view, Lake Houston Wilderness Park offers a vast forest area great for camping, kayaking, and trails.

Some of the best places to eat in Porter Texas include the famous buffet restaurant, Supreme Hibachi & Sushi Buffet. IHOP Porter Texas is a well-known chain, which serves a variety of pancakes and other American dishes. Freddy’s Taco Shack and La Casita Mexican Restaurant are also must-visit spots if you are into Mexican cuisine. Pete’s Burger Place is a family-owned, classic American joint offering burgers, BLTs, and chicken fried steak. Hofbrau Steaks are famously known as a classic Porter Texas steakhouse.

Other food restos are Chicken Headz, Herbeato’s Porter Texas, 777 Hunan Cuisine, etc.

Schools in Porter, TX

Porter Texas is zoned to the New Caney Independent School District (ISD) since 1965. New Caney ISD is based in New Caney, southeastern of Montgomery County and just north of Porter. Students here attend Porter Texas Elementary, Valley Ranch Elementary, Bens Branch Elementary, Sorters Mill Elementary, Kings Manor Elementary, and Crippen Elementary. For the intermediate level, Pine Valley Middle School, White Oak Middle School, Woodridge Forest Middle School, and Keefer Crossing Middle School. Next level students go to Porter High School, Infinity Early College High School, and New Caney High School.
