In the year 2020, the population of the city fell from 23,064 to 22,986, representing a loss of 0.338%, while the county’s median household income fell from $48,248 to $47,010, representing a fall of 2.57%.


Economy

About 10,000 individuals make a living in Hockley County’s economy. The city is home to 1,281 people who work in health care and social assistance; 1,117 who work in education; and 981 who work in mining, quarrying, and oil and gas extraction. The highest-paying industries are utilities ($80,742), information ($66,583), and wholesale trade ($56,207).

There’s also the Showboat Drive-In which you can visit to watch a movie on the big screen from the comfort of your own vehicle (or from chairs set up right outside your vehicle, if you prefer) every Friday, Saturday, and Sunday night (and every night in the summer).

Ride the Zube Park Steamers for free! You may go for a run with the Houston Area Live Steamers and enjoy the trails, the playground and separate spray park, the picnic areas, the soccer field, and the disc golf course at Zube Park. From March through November, on certain weekends, the public can ride the train for free.
