Stafford Texas’ origin dates back to 1830 when William Stafford started a plantation with a cane mill. He also established a horse-powered cotton gin in the same year. During the Texas Revolution in 1836, the Antonio López de Santa Anna forces made a stop at Stafford’s plantation. He ordered it to be burned. But despite the incident, Stafford did not leave the area. Instead, he resided there and tried his best to rebuild the plantation until his death in 1840. It was by then that a settlement called “Stafford’s Point” was founded. In 1953, it became a town site as various railways (the Brazos, Buffalo Bayou, and Colorado Railway) began stopping there. It slowly developed into what is known now as Stafford Texas.
